TinEye - A great site for the art lover
During one of my shifts at the College Library, Ian showed me a new website called TinEye, an image search system. Basically, you upload a picture or copy a picture's URL, and TinEye finds other copies of that picture on the web including cropped or edited pictures. This is a great find for art historians who are picky about the color or clarity of a picture being accurate as there are so many variations in what is posted on the web. Just go to www.tineye.com to try it out. Again, this is free just like Jing. Here's a video of me finding an image of one of my favorite artists, Otto Dix, and then using TinEye to find copies and crops of the picture: http://screencast.com/t/Rmy5kxkF
Jing - I love it!
I've been using Jing for the past several weeks at the reference desk and at home. It's fantastic! Particularly for chat/IM reference questions when you cannot show the patron face-to-face how you are finding information, this method seems to work even better. Students can see exactly which steps you took to find information, and they can replay the video over and over if needed or share it with other students who have similar questions. It's also a free download, so what could be better? Just go to www.jingproject.com to download it for your PC. Here's a quick Jing video of me tooling around on the website: http://screencast.com/t/xfvrPV78

The Start
Here’s the beginning of my journey through the 23 Things. It’s time for me to become more involved with all of the technology available through the Internet.
Currently, I’m an undergraduate student in Madison enrolled in Library Science classes, looking to complete a Master’s in Library Science and eventually a Master’s in Art History. My goal will be to attain an Art Library/Archives position. My practicum this semester is at the College Library on campus, and I will be posting updates on that as well as any other technology I learn about this semester here on this blog.
